Your IRL Guide for Enjoying the Single Life

IRL GUIDE FOR ENJOYING THE SINGLE LIFE

If spring is for uncuffing (breaking up just in time for the warm weather), then summer is definitely for fun! And there’s a lot of fun to be had, especially when you’re single. Here’s how.

Consciously UnBumble

As in, break up with your phone. Delete Bumble, Tinder, OkCupid and whatever else you’ve got on there and, instead, get OUT there. If you’ve been swiping right and left for months and still going nowhere, you’ll be going nowhere even faster come summer. If deleting your profile feels far too committal for you, hide your profile instead. Better yet, post a picture of a sign that says “Gone Beachin’” and then get gone.

Did someone say GNO?

If you’ve neglected your besties while playing winter wifey, summer’s the perfect time to make it up to them. Grab a girlfriend or five for dinner at that restaurant you’ve been dying to try. Concerts and sporting events make enjoyable group outings with the girls, too. Who needs romance when you can have a slumber party! “Look at me, I’m Sandra Dee…”

Mix and mingle

Don’t delete or toss aside the invitations you receive. Set aside summer to pursue those interests that may have taken a back seat to more pressing obligations during the winter months or because you were cuffed and otherwise occupied…gaining relationship weight. Even if the event winds up to be a bust, and sometimes it is, it still beats sitting home and swiping (see above).

Get in shape

Speaking of which, the flip of your wrist on a dating app doesn’t count as exercise no matter how many times a day you do it. If you’re short of cash and don’t want to invest in a gym membership, think about investing in some weights to use at home and maybe a new pair of sneakers. Then hit the pavement. Or consider ways to find the money elsewhere, such as by auctioning your old engagement ring. You are, after all, single and presently uncuffed. Might as well look the part.

Travel

If you’re feeling a little more ambitious, book that vacation you’ve always wanted to take, even if you have no one to go with. Everyone, including you, is busy (hopefully), and it can often be challenging to coordinate schedules, especially for a trip lasting more than a night or two. Going solo offers the flexibility you won’t have when traveling with friends. Wake up when you want, eat what you want, see what you want, and be as social as you want. Or go with friends and practice your compromising skills. #RelationshipGoals

Table (or bar stool) for one, please

If you’ve ever felt shy about eating alone, don’t be. Whether you’re traveling by yourself or are on your own for an evening, don’t deprive yourself of a nice night out. You’re not alone; you’re solo! There’s a difference, and how you wear it says everything. “It’s a little known fact…” that if you’re open to it, you may find a new friend or romantic interest along the way.

Date around

Because, alas, cuffing season will soon be upon us again. And no one wants to be left out in the cold.
