August is that bitter-sweet time when summer begins to fade and we all start looking toward a return to real life. And if you’re a parent, that means back to school and back to school shopping. A recent study done by RetailMeNot showed that parents are planning on spending $40 more on back to school shopping this year than last. Netflix’s Otherhood

August isn’t back to school month for everyone, especially for parents who no longer have kids at home. Film writer and director Cindy Chupack has coined a new phrase, otherhood, to describe the years after active-duty parenting. This is what inspired her new film by the same name that stars Angela Bassett, Patricia Arquette and Felicity Huffman and is based on the novel Whatever Makes You Happy by William Sutcliffe. The film follows three suburban moms who plan a surprise visit to their sons in NYC and realize this new stage in motherhood is something truly different. 

The movie comes to Netflix on August 2nd.

Orange Is The New Black‘s New Season & New Efforts

Since its premiere in 2013, Orange Is The New Black has been a talking point for many watches all over the country. Not only is it a well-made show with moments of dark comedy and gut-wrenching tragedy, but it also explores a world that most viewers were unacquainted with: the world of America’s penitentiary system. 

Now in its final season, the people behind OITNB have created an initiative to help support causes that are working to improve the lives of incarcerated women and their loved ones, a move inspired by the show itself and how audiences have responded to it.
