We are very excited to announce the winners of our Worthy Women’s Scholarship – Brittney Tillman, Angel Suttle, and Janisha Szabo.

This year, we were honored to receive over 3,000 applications from women across the country, representing a diverse range of ages and career paths, experiences and stories.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to our dedicated panelists: Mandy Walker, divorce mediator and Certified Divorce Financial Analyst, and Erin Levine, Certified Family Law Specialist and founder and CEO of Hello Divorce.

We are deeply inspired by each and every applicant—women who are balancing the demands of daily life while pursuing their education—and we are proud to support three exceptional individuals on their journey toward achieving their dreams.

The Winners of the 2024-2025 Worthy Women’s Scholarship

Brittney Tillman

1st Place Winner of $2,500

Brittney Tillman is a Special Education Preschool Itinerant Teacher/Case Manager. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and is working towards completing her Birth to Kindergarten Add on Licensure Program at the University of North Carolina Greensboro.

She is a Fragile X Carrier and one of her sons was born with the full mutation of Fragile X Syndrome as well as Autism, ADHD and Epilepsy. She began advocating for people with disabilities locally and nationally with the RARE Disease Advocates and the National Fragile X Foundation shortly after he was born, and is currently a board member.

She has always had a passion for fostering the love of learning in others as well as a love for one another. She wants to create a culture of acceptance, appreciation and inclusion for each student. Her hope is that we can see past our own fears and find everyone’s strengths. She is grateful for this scholarship to be able to continue her education and create a strong foundation for her own future.

Select feedback from our panelists:
“Her work at the national level combined with hands-on teaching shows extraordinary dedication to inclusion.”

“The combination of Brittany’s personal and professional connection to inclusive education is inspiring. Her essay was very compelling.”

Angel Suttle

2nd Place Winner of $1,500

Angel Suttle is a Harvard Extension School student in Sustainability and Innovation, a visionary leader, and a passionate advocate for equity in energy, policy, and community development. With a career that spans media, public service, and environmental justice, she brings bold, unapologetic leadership to the spaces that need it most.

She leads a national EV enthusiast group with a community of over 8,000 women focused on eliminating charging deserts and expanding access to clean transportation and education. Angel also hosts The Halo Effect, a weekly music and culture show on WBOI 89.1 FM, an NPR affiliate, where she uses storytelling to uplift voices and connect communities.

In addition to her broadcast and advocacy work, Angel serves on the board of directors for the Girl Scouts of Northeast Indiana-Michiana and is a proud alum of the Hoosier Women Forward political leadership program.

Inspired by the powerful women of trailblazers who catalyzed the path before her, Angel is committed to building a future where equity, innovation, and opportunity are accessible to all.

Select feedback from our panelists:
“I was especially impressed by how she translated Shirley Chisholm’s example into real action, creating programs for young women while navigating her own financial and leadership challenges.”

“Her essay was particularly well-written and also gave a specific story that she had used in her life.”

Janisha Szabo

3rd Place Winner of $1,000

Janisha Szabo (she/her) is beginning the next chapter of her educational and career journeys at Vermont Law and Graduate School in the Online Hybrid JD Program with the goal of working as a public interest attorney.

Janisha has always felt a duty to serve the community but found limitations in the work that could be accomplished without more advanced knowledge and qualifications. The decision to become a lawyer was major motivation for completing undergraduate studies (at age 40) so she could serve in a greater capacity and become a better advocate for marginalized populations, especially for migrant, LGBTQ+, and BIPOC communities. With a law degree, she hopes to provide pro bono services for the people and organizations with which she has worked so diligently, creating opportunities for growth and advancement among historically underrepresented groups.

As an active volunteer, Janisha has served as a court-appointed special advocate, an English language tutor, a promoter of children’s and adult literacy, and an ambassador for women and gender-diverse individuals, among many other volunteer and leadership roles. As a working parent and first-generation law student, Janisha is an example of resilience and is proud to be honored as one of many Worthy Women who shine brightly in all they do.

Select feedback from our panelists:
“She’s built deep community ties through service and is now positioned to give back legally to the very groups that supported her during difficult times.”

“Her commitment to community service and articulated vision for the future are both exciting and ambitious. Well done!”
