While the effects of the new year may not have worn off yet (who’s still on their diet resolution?), we wanted to take a moment to look back at some truly memorable pieces that came through our auctions at the end of 2022. From baroque pearl and diamond earrings to a gorgeous snowflake motif watch, we certainly ended the year on a high note.
We often highlight the vintage and antique-inspired items we see in our auctions for their elegance but lest we not forget about the beauty in modern elegance. Looking at the Tahitian black pearl and diamond earrings (#8 below), while these do fit the classic definition of “baroque”, they certainly have a very modern twist (baroque normally refers to heavy and ornate jewelry similar to popular styles from the 17th and 18th centuries). The same can be said for the fancy yellow diamond halo ring (#7) with an octagonal bezel and split pave shank.
We also saw pieces from some of the biggest legacy jewelry brands, including Tiffany & Co. and Van Cleef & Arpels. While the Elsa Peretti station necklace (#2 below) and classic Alhambra bracelet (#4) are gorgeous pieces, many owners of branded fine jewelry are finding less and less need for gorgeous jewelry and more and more need for the money these pieces can make them when they sell with Worthy.
As we head into the unknown financial territory of 2023, take a moment to consider the financial assets sitting in those little velvet boxes. You may find that some extra emergency cash serves you better than diamond jewelry ever could.
