If the New Year is an opportunity to get rid of the old and make room for the new, then it makes sense that in January our online auction house was packed with marquise-cut and heart-shaped diamond rings, yellow gold bracelets and groovy necklaces.

Our favorite part of the job is helping our clients sell their jewelry regrets and other items they don’t need anymore, and use the money to buy new pieces, travel, start a rainy day fund or even open a business. Our second favorite part is having the chance to look at amazing pieces of vintage jewelry! Join us as we dive deep, deeep into jewelry nostalgia…

Non-traditional diamond shapes became a trend in the 60s. Many celebrities put alternative cuts into the spotlight, like Richard Burton, who in 1969 proposed to Elizabeth Taylor’s with a 68 CT pear cut diamond, propelling the demand for pear-cut stones. The GIA 3.62 CT pear cut diamond recently auctioned on Worthy for $42,873 may not be the Burton-Taylor diamond, but proves that just like Liz, some things are timeless.

Marquise-cut diamonds, baguette clusters, yellow gold, channel settings… Hello 80s! A decade marked by Madonna, Prince, and very, very intricate rings. Funky, geometric, often asymmetrical designs were later on (thankfully?) overthrown by simpler, brilliant cut solitaire rings.

Which brings us back to today. Many of these retro styles are making a comeback. Like emerald jewelry, which is not just stylish but also holds very inspiring meaning, as we’ve learned at the Golden Globes red carpet.

Get into the groove and scroll down to see 10 most eye-catching items we’ve auctioned in January…
