Top 10 August Auctions Over $15K

This time of year can often be overwhelming; summer is winding down, school is starting up, and the holidays are creeping around the corner! All of this busyness can often bring unexpected expenses. What better way to prepare for those expenses than by clearing out that jewelry drawer, or simply taking a second look at those pieces that are just collecting dust!

Last month we saw hundreds of items come through our doors, but there were a few that especially caught our eye! We wanted to take a moment to highlight some pieces that sold in August each with an impressive price tag over $15,000.

The Bigger The Better?

August saw the sale of several rings that feature large center stones ranging from 3 ct – 5.63 ct. Most notably, two Emerald cut diamond rings that each sold for over $30,000! Emerald cut diamonds are known for their step-cut facets which create a clean, elegant look, making them a consistently sought after shape. 

Additionally, we auctioned a rare 5.63 ct Old European cut ring. Old European cut diamonds were only produced in the late 19th and early 20th century, so there is a limited amount of them available today. Old European cut diamonds are rare enough already, not to mention the significant carat weight and above average clarity of VS2 (Very Slightly Included). It’s no surprise that this beautiful piece was able to fetch over $24,000 at auction. The Old European cut shape also showed up in a gorgeous pair of earrings that sold for nearly $45,000! With a total combined carat weight of 8.5 ctw, these drop earrings are certainly a showstopper.

In addition to exceptional diamond jewelry, we also had several watches that sold in August and we wanted to show them off! A classic by anyone’s standard, this Rolex 218238 sold for a whopping $32,000 exactly. We also had this classic Audemars Royal Oak timepiece sell for almost $16,000.
